2007  Limestone  Symposium

      Tuition and Registration Information

Tuition

$ 775 per session ($750 for returning students)

$ 950 On Your Own plus Session 1 or 2 ($925 for returning students)

$1650 for all three sessions

$ 400 for Carving the Figure Workshop

Beginning Workshop included free with tuition

Includes

-         On-site breakfast and lunch

-         Up to eight cubic feet of limestone per session, approximately 1200 lbs. (value: $350)

-         Water spigot on site

-         Electricity, compressed air, forklift and operator

-         Primitive on-site camping

-         Sculptors’ dinner

 

Limited number of “Work While You Carve” Scholarships available.  Contact Education Department at the Bloomington Area Arts Council for additional information (812) 334-3100 ext. 105.

Tools

Bring your own tools.  After registering a packet will be sent to you with detailed information and list of tools needed.

The Compleat Sculptor, from NYC, will be on site with a full selection of chisels, hammers, and power tools.  Pneumatic carbide tools can be purchased from Bybee Stone Tools.

The Indiana Limestone Sculpture Symposium is held in Ellettsville, Indiana at the Bybee Stone Company, approximately five miles west of Bloomington.  Slide shows will be held at the John Waldron Arts Center, a renovated limestone structure in downtown Bloomington.

Coordinator and co-founder of the Symposium; BFA Boston University, MFA Indiana University; Stonecarver from 1987 to 1993 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City; workshop instructor in the US and Germany; her work is exhibited internationally.

 

2007 Instructors Include:

Ned Cunningham

Head Carver, Bybee Stone Company; BA Indiana University; he is skilled in portrait, figure, relief, and ornate architectural carving.

 

Dale Enochs

BFA, MFA Indiana University; his numerous works can be seen locally and internationally; and in many venues including the Indiana Governor’s Mansion, the McDonald’s Corporation Headquarters and the Kotaki-ji Temple in Japan.

 

Janey Westin

Calligrapher and letter cutter since 1980; her sculptures can be found in religious and secular buildings throughout the US such as St. Olaf College, Our Lady of Guadelupe Cathedral, and the Target Corporation Headquarters; awards include the “Booth Award” for four years from the Minnesota Architects Convention and the 1991 “Artists Award” at the American Craft Council Expo.
